The YSR Pelli Kanuka Scheme intends to cover the brides belonging to the backward classes, minorities, Schedule caste, disabled women, and scheduled tribes. According to the Economic Survey 2017-2018, since time immemorial, the Indian society has given preference to sons and have perceived the daughters as a burden due to their marriage expenses and dowry system prevalent in India.
Indian society has been a patriarchal society where women are mostly dependent upon their husband’s income as they have always been an obstacle in the growth and economic independence of the daughters of India.
Considering the plight of daughters of India, the Andhra Pradesh Government has launched YSR Pelli Kanuka Scheme to aid the brides of their states by providing them financial assistance at the time of their marriage. The financial assistance of Rupees 1,25,000 will be given to the brides of such castes and reduce the financial burden of their parents at the time of marriage.

The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a great initiative by launching the YSR Pelli Kanuka Scheme to empower the women and their families who are unable to bear the marriage expenses of their daughters. In India, right from the time when a girl child is born the society weighs her as a burden to their families due to which the families are forced to tie the knot of their daughters at a very early age. This not only degrades the status of women but also of their coming generation as they are not allowed to showcase their talent and realize their full potential. This is most prevalent in many minority sections of the Indian society because of poverty and poor standard of living.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has realized the plight of the Indian daughters and to raise the status of women in their state, they have launched the YSR Pelli Kanuka Scheme. This scheme aims to empower women and change the mindset of the society where a daughter is seen as an asset rather than a burden to the families. The YSR Pelli Kanuka Yojana not only helps in women empowerment but also will help abolish child marriages in the State of Andra Pradesh. Thus, this scheme must not be confined to the state of Andhra Pradesh but also it must be conceived by the other states of India.
