The idea behind launching the UP Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana is based upon the thought of maintaining the well- being and education of all. With the motive of pulling out the children stuck in the bog of child labour, the UP Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana has been brought into existence.
Obtaining a good education in life is essential for everyone to have a good future. Acquiring and having a good education in life helps in developing the skills of the person and makes him/her achieve a better livelihood for themselves.
As per the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act or Right to Education Act (RTE), enacted on 4 August 2009, it is clearly stated that the education for children between the age of 6-14 years is a compulsion.
When a child is educated, he/she gets the privilege to think, speak, share the perspective, and talk about the independent views on anything. Education also develops the behavior of an individual adding to his/her growth. Additionally, every child is eligible to get free education and grow in all the spheres of life, and this is the essence of the UP Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana.

Launched by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath UP Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana is a scheme initiated on the occasion of World Child Labour Prohibition Day. This scheme aims to focus on aiding a grant of ₹1,200 per month to the children who have been or are working as child labourers in the state.
Additionally, an incentive amount of ₹6,000 will be provided to students who have passed class 8th, 9th, and 10th, respectively. This yojana was inaugurated through video conferencing. While announcing the UP Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana, the CM also stated that this scheme would be implemented in two phases.
As per the 2011 census report, the 57 districts targeted under this scheme have the highest number of child labourers. In addition to this, an amount of 6,000 will be granted to the students who have passed the 8th, 9th, and class 10th. The first phase consists of the selection of 2,000 children.
On sending these children to schools, a grant of ₹1,200 will be provided to the girls, and an incentive of ₹1,000 will be granted to the boys. Children from 57 districts of Uttar Pradesh have been selected. These districts are mostly associated with activities of child labour.
Based on the report constructed on the National Census data collected, it was found that nearly 10.1 million children are prey to child labour. Hence, the UP Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana has been formulated to aid support to the children belonging to the economically weaker section or the backward classes of our society.
The economic and financial condition of the families residing in rural and remote areas is the biggest reason behind their failure of providing education to their children. Not only does this failure makes the poor and struggling families keep their children away from education and schooling, but it also makes the families feel so weak and vulnerable that they end up pushing their children into the bog of “Child Labour”.
Fighting with the harsh situations of life without having a good job or any other source of income and employment opportunities makes the people helpless, leaving them with making choices like asking their children to work at the age of attaining basic education.
Child labor is a weapon that deprives the childhood of a child. Not only does it affect their childhood but also damages their mental as well as physical health. Being trapped in the net of child labor also obstructs the development of the child.
The scheme is introduced to support the children belonging to the BPL and EWS category of the state. To target the worsened conditions of the child labour persisting in the 57 districts of Uttar Pradesh, UP Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana has been introduced.
As per the statement furnished by the CM of UP, The Labour Department was running a scheme where cash was transferred to eradicate child labour. Under this yojana, ₹8,000 along with ₹100 was granted to the beneficiary of the children monthly. The scheme was later reformed as Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana (UP BSBY).
